Michigan legislation signed by the governor provides communities the option to OPT IN to allow medical marijuana dispensaries in their jurisdictions. West Branch, city council voted 5-1 not to OPT IN. House Bill No. 4209, became Public Act 281 "medical marihuana facilities licensing act". December 2017, individuals will be able to submit applications to obtain one or more of the 5 licenses. Along with the application, individuals will need verified permission from a municipality along with a copy of ordinace complying with new statue to be considered. Across the state of Michigan, township boards and elected officials are taking up the topic in open forum meetings. Communities can OPT IN thus enacting new ordinances, or they can remain silent, thus OPTING OUT of allowing legal cannabis businesses in their respective communities. West Branch, Michigan, an outstanding Northern Michigan community with amazing residents OPTED OUT by a 5-1 council vote. This is a high energy episode one the audience has grown accustomed to.
